Algoma University College
Enrolment: Algoma University College (AUC) is an affiliate college of Laurentian University offering over 25 degree programs in humanities, social sciences, natural sciences, and professional areas. It has a student population of 1,200.
New Programs: The first North American Masters degree in computer games technology is offered at Algoma University College. It is taught in conjunction with the University of Abertay Dundee which pioneered this prestigious course in 1997 and whose graduates have had great success in the rapidly-growing computer games industry worldwide.

Cambrian College
Established in 1967, Cambrian has over 4,400 full-time students enrolled in business, applied arts, human services, health sciences, technology, communication and creative arts, hospitality and tourism, apprenticeship, skills, and trades.
The College offers over 90 full-time programs, a number of which are designed specifically for the Native community, and more than 800 part-time continuing education programs, courses, seminars, customized training packages, and distance education opportunities.

Canadore College is co-located with Nipissing University in North Bay with a student population of 3,000. The academic focus is: Information Technology; Aviation; Hospitality and Tourism; and Health and Community Services. The college also has a strong Aboriginal Learning Unit. Canadore offers a nationally recognized Biotechnology Program consisting of two years at the college followed by a year of field placement. This program, which utilizes state-of-the-art teaching technology, offers direct entry into industry. Employment in this field covers all sectors of the industry including research and development, clinical trials, manufacturing, quality control, and federal regulation. Biotechnology at Canadore is an integrative technology with several scientific disciplines. These disciplines include cell biology, chemistry, physics, molecular biology, genetics, biochemistry, microbiology, immunology, fermentation and bioinformatics.

Collège Boréal's main campus is in Sudbury. However, the campus in Sturgeon Falls covers the Nipissing area and recently agreements have been reached with Canadore College to offer certain programs in North Bay. Collège Boréal offers about 60 programs of which 24 are in French to a student population of 1,500. Boréal boasts the highest graduation rate among Ontario colleges.
Features of the main campus in Sudbury include a resource centre, high-technology laboratories, model classrooms, learning support services, a well-equipped sports centre, and a day-care centre. It also promotes access to computer networks with more than 2,300 connections. It has specialized laboratories for different areas of study. Examples include chemistry, computer science, dental, early childhood education, greenhouse, medical radiation, mining and urban construction engineering, natural environment science, pharmacy technician, and welding and fitting.
Collège Boréal offers apprenticeship programs in various fields. The Kapuskasing Campus merged with Hearst in order to offer a range of services for the forestry industry in Northern Ontario. One of the most prestigious projects is the CEFNO (Centre of Excellence for Forestry in Northern Ontario). It encompasses all training aspects of the forestry industry from R&D to practical hands-on training in related occupations.

Confederation College serves an area exceeding 550,000 square kilometers from the main campus in Thunder Bay and area campuses in Dryden, Fort Frances, Geraldton, Kenora, Marathon and Sioux Lookout. Approximately 3,200 full time students are taking over 50 postsecondary diploma and certificate programs in Aboriginal Studies, Applied Arts, Business, Health Sciences, Technology and Skilled Trades.
The Aviation Centre of Excellence (ACE) is a state-of-the-art facility at Confederation College that offers programs in Manufacturing Engineering, Flight Management, Aircraft Management and Avionics.

Université de Hearst is one of Laurentian University's affiliated university colleges and includes 3 campuses located in Hearst, Kapuskasing, and Timmins. The College offers various programs including Administration of the Businesses, French, Geography, Management, History, Psychology, and Sociology. All students enrolled at the Timmins location are part-time.

Lakehead University
Enrolment: Lakehead University had an undergraduate enrolment of 5,700 in fall 2005. The university offers a range of undergraduate programs in Engineering, Business Administration, Education, Forestry and the Forest Environment, Science and Environmental Studies and Social Sciences and Humanities. There are also four Professional Schools offering undergraduate and graduate programs in Kinesiology, Nursing, Outdoor Recreation, Parks and Tourism and Social Work.
Graduates: Graduate enrolment in fall 2005 was 400. Lakehead offers twenty-nine graduate programs in both academic and professional disciplines and is planning to develop exciting interdisciplinary degrees in the areas of biotechnology, Northern Studies and applied Health Sciences (Lakehead University is also home to the Western campus of the Northern Ontario School of Medicine.) Six of seven Canada Research Chairs positions have been filled in Aging and Health, Industrial Waste Management, Technoculture Studies, Sustainable Water Management and the Boreal Forest, Molecular Food Microbiology and Aboriginal Education. Laurentian University
Enrolment: With more than 9000 full-time and part-time students, Laurentian offers degrees in the humanities, arts, science, health and engineering, to name a few. The university also offers professional programs such as commerce and administration, midwifery, education, e-business science, social work, nursing, and others.
Graduates: Laurentian University has 500 graduate students and offers a number of master's level programs such as engineering, sciences, human development, physics, and geology as well as a PhD program in Biomolecular Sciences. Nipissing University
Enrolment: Nipissing University is primarily an undergraduate institution with a Faculty of Arts and Science and a Faculty of Education (focus on teacher education). Science-related departments include: Biology, Computer Science, Geography, Business, Environmental Sciences and Mathematics. Enrolment in fall 2005 was 3,400 full-time students.
Research: Nipissing University is dedicated to supporting individual and collaborative research in all fields of faculty endeavour but specific areas of research strength have emerged, with the development of collaborative research groups in areas such as: aging; topology; neuroscience; Aboriginal education; and environmental science.
For the next 5-10 years Nipissing's strategy entails the establishment of research Chairs, the continued enhancement of research space, equipment and infrastructure (including support for dissemination, partnership development, technology transfer and commercialization) and the development of full-time graduate programs in targeted areas including Natural Sciences and the Environment and Mathematical Sciences and Information Technology. Northern College maintains 4 main campuses. The Kirkland Lake Campus, the Timmins/Porcupine Campus, the Moosonee Campus, and the Haileybury Campus. The Haileybury Campus is located near Lake Temiskaming in Temiskaming Shores. It is world-renowned for its Haileybury School of Mines (HSM). There are over 2000 graduates pursuing careers in mining and mining-related fields throughout North America and around the world. It has also provided expertise to schools of mines in Zimbabwe and Chile, and has taken the lead on numerous international mining education and training projects. Its Mining Engineering Technician program is now available in distance education format.
The college has a student population of 1,500 and offers over 50 Certificate, diploma and apprenticeship programs including Welding Engineering Technology programs through it's nationally renowned School of Welding Engineering Technology at the Kirkland Lake Campus.

Northern Ontario School of Medicine
The inaugural class of the Northern Ontario School of Medicine (NOSM) started in September 2005. The School is a collaboration between Laurentian University in Sudbury and Lakehead University in Thunder Bay, enrolling 56 students per year, with 24 based in Thunder Bay and 32 in Sudbury.
NOSM has two state-of-the-art research labs, one at its east campus at Laurentian University in Sudbury, and one at its west campus at Lakehead University in Thunder Bay. In addition, the School works in partnership with universities, private sector organizations, and health centres across the North to facilitate research initiatives which have a strong focus on the health issues of Northern communities. Research performed in the labs will focus on areas such as biomedicine, epidemiology, psychology, social sciences, drug discovery (with medicinal chemists), and toxicology amongst many others.Website: www.normed.ca
Sault College of Applied Arts and Technology (Sault College) has a student population of 2,300 and offers specialized programs in the fields of Aviation, Natural Resources and Health Sciences as well as many other diploma and certificate courses.

Sault College is developing a $1.1 million Wind Energy Training Centre and Program scheduled to open in fall 2007. The Wind Energy Training Centre will include a fully operational pilot scale wind turbine and training facility including an electromechanical instrumentation lab.
