The United States is the world's largest and richest national market and is, by far, Ontario's largest trading partner. Ontario's proximity to the U.S., shared language and similar laws and customs, make accessing the U.S. market ideal.
- The U.S. accounts for about 65 per cent of Ontario's total trade. The U.S. also accounts for 65 per cent of foreign capital investment in Ontario.
- New York State alone accounts for over 5 per cent of Ontario's two-way trade and almost six per cent of Ontario's total exports, making it the third-largest destination for exports within the U.S.
- In 2010 Ontario exported over C$115 billion dollars worth of product to the US while importing over C$135 billion dollars in product from the U.S. The most heavily imported and exported goods between Ontario and the U.S. are autos and motor vehicle parts. See the Ontario-US Trade Fact Sheet.
- The International Marketing Centre in Los Angeles and a second International Marketing Centre in New York are located in the Canadian Consulates. Both centres are active in promoting Ontario's strengths across many sectors, particularly business and financial services, outsourcing, life sciences, and research and development and commercialization.
- In 2010 the Ontario Teachers' Pension Plan acquired a significant minority stake of common stock in the children's educational toy company Munchkin Inc. Munchkin is a California-based company. The Ontario Teachers' Pension Plan is an independent organization responsible for investing the pension fund and administering the pensions of Ontario's 289,000 active and retired teachers. In December 31, 2009, the Ontario Teachers' Pension Plan had net assets of C$107.5 billion.

- Charles Thomas Bolton is said to have been one of the first astronomers to present strong evidence in support that black holes exist. He received his Bachelors degree in 1966 from the University of Illinois, followed by a 1968 Masters and a 1970 doctoral degree from the University of Michigan. Bolton then worked as a postdoctoral researcher at the David Dunlap Observatory, in Richmond Hill, Ontario, teaching there until 1972. Bolton has been affiliated with the University of Toronto since 1973, where he currently is an emeritus professor. It was not until Bolton moved to the University of Toronto that the astronomical community recognized black hole Cygnus X-1, which was found in the Milky Way galaxy.
- Alex Trebek was born in Sudbury, Ontario and attended the University of Ottawa. Trebek began his broadcasting career working for the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) as a newscaster and sportscaster. His big break came in 1973 when he moved to the United States to work for NBC. He is most famous for hosting the television game show Jeopardy!, which he has hosted since 1984.
- Born in 1963, Malcolm Gladwell is the author of four provocative bestseller novels: Tipping Point, Blink, Outliers and What the Dog Saw: And Other Adventures. After growing up in Canada, Gladwell received his degree from the University of Toronto, Trinity College. Gladwell went on to become a reporter for the Washington Post. Currently Gladwell is a staff writer for The New Yorker.
- James Cameron, Oscar-winning film director, producer, screenwriter and inventor was born in Kapuskasing, Ontario. Moving to the United States in 1971, Cameron pursued his dream of becoming a professional screenwriter after he graduated from California State University. Cameron is the director of major motion pictures such as The Terminator, Aliens, True Lies, Titanic and Avatar.

- In 2008 there were approximately 21 million trips from Ontario to the United States and 13 million trips from the Unites States to Ontario.
- The De Havilland Beaver, an Ontarian made bush airplane, was used by the United States Army and Air Force.

The International Marketing Centre in Los Angeles
The International Marketing Centre in Los Angeles is located in the Canadian Consulate General. Its mandate is to promote awareness of Ontario and the province's many business and investment opportunities. The Centre's staff works with local companies to find investment opportunities in Ontario and to promote awareness of and access to Ontario-produced goods and services.
The Centre is active in promoting Ontario's strengths across many sectors, particularly Energy (Alternatives) / Environmental, Information Technology (IT) and Life Sciences.

Biography of Senior Economic Officer
Ms. Shirley Townsend
Prior to this position, Ms. Townsend worked for the International Trade Branch of the Ontario Ministry of Economic Development and Innovation where she served as an International Marketing Consultant for South and Southeast Asia for several years. She has organized and led numerous trade missions to Asia and the United States, assisting Ontario companies to access opportunities in those markets. Ms Townsend played a key role in the organization and delivery of the Premier of Ontario's Business Mission to India in January 2007.
