Mexico is Ontario's third largest trading partner, with growth in both exports and imports in recent years. At 22,275 people, almost half of the Mexican-born Canadian population, live in Ontario.

Trade and Commerce
  • In February 2010 Ontario accounted for 72 per cent of Canada’s total trade with Mexico. Of that, almost 50 per cent of all Canadian goods exported to Mexico originated in Ontario, and the province accounted for almost 80 per cent of all Mexican imported goods.

  • In 2010 Ontario goods exported to Mexico were valued at C$1.7 billion, while Mexican goods imported by Ontario were valued at $17.6 billion.

  • The top two goods exports from Ontario to Mexico are motor vehicle parts and autos, while the top two goods imports are autos and goods transport vehicles. See the Ontario-Mexico Trade Fact Sheet.
People and Life
  • Between 2003 and 2007, 4,306 new landed immigrants came from Mexico to Ontario.

  • In November 2010, Toronto hosted a Day of the Dead celebration on the shores of Lake Ontario to honour El Dia de los Muertos in Mexico. The event raised awareness of the Latin tradition of honouring dead family members and loved ones.

  • Nemak of Canada Corporation owned by ALFA (Mexico), is investing $100M in the expansion of its engine block manufacturing plant in Windsor, Ontario. The company is an auto-parts manufacturer and automotive supplier.

  • Samuel Manu-Tech Inc., a billion dollar public Canadian metals and plastics fabricator with 60 facilities in Canada and the United States recently invested in a production facility in Saltillo, Mexico.
Fast Facts
  • Announced in Guadalajara in November, 2009, Ontario will host the 2015 Pan/Parapan American Games.

  • Ontario is home to Antares, the only trilingual publishing house in North America to distribute works in Spanish, English and French.

  • Mexico has had an Ontario consulate for more than 60 years.

The International Marketing Centre in Mexico City is located in the Canadian Embassy. Part of its mandate is to promote awareness of Ontario and the province's many business opportunities, to work with Mexican companies to find investment opportunities in Ontario, and to build relationships with the media and local governments.
