The Skilled Worker category selects applicants with a strong likelihood of integrating into the Canadian workforce.

Federal skilled worker applications received on or after June 26, 2010 are now assessed for eligibility according to a set of instructions issued by the Minister of Citizenship, Immigration and Multiculturalism.

According to these instructions, your application is eligible for processing if:

Applicants who qualify under these instructions are selected on a point system which considers factors of age, education, work experience, arranged employment in Canada, English or French ability and adaptability measures. Applicants must have a minimum of one year experience in a skilled occupation and meet a pass mark of 67 out of 100 points in order to be selected. If you are not sure if you should apply as a skilled worker, you can use the eligibility tool to get an idea of whether your application would be eligible for processing, then try a self-assessment test to see if you might earn enough points to qualify.

Applications for permanent residence must be submitted to a Canadian visa office outside of Canada that serves the country where you have been legally admitted for at least one year, or your country of nationality.

All applicants for permanent residence and their dependents must meet health and background requirements in order to be approved. You must also show that you have enough money to support yourself and your dependants after you arrive in Canada.
