Ontario offers powerful advantages that positions it as one of the best places in the world to develop green technologies, processes and products for global markets.

  1. Available biomass. A growing bioproducts industry needs biomass and Ontario has an abundance, thanks to a large forestry industry, a diverse and competitive agriculture sector and substantial municipal and industrial residues.

  2. Diverse end-user markets. Ontario has a large and diverse manufacturing base, with world leaders in the automotive, aerospace, telecommunications, electronics, chemicals, plastics, transportation and food processing industries.

  4. Workers with skills for the 21st century. Developing and producing value-added technologies, processes and products requires smart, skilled workers – and Ontario's are exceptional. To ensure our talent pool keeps growing, our network of 44 universities and colleges produces a steady stream of industry-ready graduates in materials, chemical, civil, computer and systems engineering, environmental science, earth sciences and biology.

  5. An innovative environment. With hundreds of scientists working on biofuels, bioenergy, biochemicals and biomaterials research at 10+ publicly-funded institutions across the province, Ontario is at the leading-edge of bio-based R&D.

  6. Government incentives. Government incentives can cut costs substantially for R&D projects aimed at developing and commercializing innovative green technologies, processes and/or products.

  7. Market access. As part of NAFTA (North American Free Trade Agreement), Ontario-based manufacturers have access to a US $17 trillion+ market where goods and services move freely.

  8. Cost advantage. KPMG's Competitive Alternatives 2010 found  Ontario's business costs the lowest in the G7 – and progressive tax reforms will see them drop even further in the next few years.

  9. Positive investment climate. According to the Economist Intelligence Unit, Canada will be the best place in the G7 to do business over the next five years. We're also one of the safest countries in which to invest and we offer 20-year patent protection.
