Mission Statement

Ontario’s Death Investigation Oversight Council

The Death Investigation Oversight Council (DIOC) is an independent oversight council committed to serving Ontarians by ensuring that death investigation services are provided in a manner that is effective and accountable.

DIOC provides oversight of Ontario’s coroners and forensic pathologists in a variety of areas. It also administers a public complaints process.

Establishing an oversight council for Ontario’s death investigation system and improving the complaints process were two of many recommendations resulting from the Hon. Stephen T. Goudge’s Inquiry into Pediatric Forensic Pathology in Ontario (2008).

On December 16, 2010, DIOC was proclaimed and announced as a new agency.
