An Ontario man was convicted of contravening the Business Practices Act. after the ministry received complaints from a number of consumers who had entered into home renovation contracts with him.
The contractor did not, as agreed to, obtain building permits before doing the work. Because of this, several complainants were forced to hire another contractor to bring the work into compliance with local building codes.
The contractor pleaded guilty to all charges and was ordered to do 150 hours of community service in lieu of fines. He was also put on probation for two years, with the condition that he not be allowed to work in the business of renovation or construction.
