Consumer Alert:BMO Email Scam

BMO customers are being warned about receiving fake e-mails containing links to fraudulent websites that look as if they come from the Bank of Montreal (BMO). These messages may be from online fraudsters “phishing” for your personal information – account numbers, passwords – to gain access to your finances or commit other crimes in your name.

Most financial institutions, including the Bank of Montreal (BMO), never request personal or financial information by sending out unsolicited e-mails. Never send personal identification numbers or confidential financial information by e-mail as it is not a secure method of contact.

If you receive an e-mail similar to the one below, do NOT open, view or respond to it -- and NEVER click on the link within the e-mail.
