Administrative Authorities
Real Estate Council of Ontario

The Real Estate Council of Ontario (RECO) administers the Real Estate and Business Brokers Act, 2002 which regulates real estate brokerages, brokers and salespersons in Ontario.

RECO enforces a Code of Ethics that defines the conduct expected of registrants and the principles upon which they must do business in Ontario.

Performance Measures

The Real Estate Council of Ontario has performance measures and targets that report on its efforts to achieve its mandate to maintain a fair and informed real estate marketplace in Ontario.

Consumer Protection:

  • Percentage of inspected brokerages that are compliant with regulations
  • Percentage of registrants who were the subject of a complaint and/or regulatory action

Consumer Awareness:

  • Percentage of consumers surveyed who are aware that real estate brokers / salespersons are regulated / licensed
  • Percentage of consumers that know to contact  RECO if they have a complaint

These performance measures address recommendations made in the 2009 Delegated Administrative Authority (DAA) Model Review report and the 2009 Annual Report of the Office of the Auditor General of Ontario. They focus on enhancing consistency in the reporting of DAA performance information.
