Message from the Chair

Welcome to the Tribunal's website. It has been designed in plain language and an easily accessible format to give you an insight into the mandate of and services provided by the Tribunal. I hope it proves a useful tool for you, whether you have an appeal pending or underway before the Tribunal or you are simply an interested observer.

The Tribunal is an independent adjudicative tribunal established by the Ontario Legislature to provide fair and impartial decisions with regard to compensation claims and registration activities regulated by several ministries of the provincial government.

Rights of appeal to the Tribunal are set out in 26 statutes, a number that has steadily increased since the Tribunal's inception. Hearings proceed before one or more independent Vice-Chairs or Members appointed to sit on the Tribunal. The Members and Vice-Chairs of the Tribunal have diverse backgrounds ranging from law and medicine through academia and government service. The Tribunal uses a variety of dispute resolution techniques to meet its goal of providing timely resolution of appeals before it. In achieving that goal appeals are processed by knowledgeable staff trained to provide effective and efficient service to the public. The Tribunal regularly publishes statistics as a measure for the Ontario public to assess if it is meeting its performance goals.

It is my honour and privilege to serve as Chair of the Tribunal.  With the assistance of a highly motivated management team and a dedicated and knowledgeable staff, it is my hope that the Tribunal will serve your needs with the level of service and efficiency of which we are rightly proud, whether you are an applicant, respondent, witness to a matter in front of the Tribunal, or an interested member of the public.
